Most editions of Jill from the 1980s had photographic covers:
- Hodder laminated boards, 1970s
- Knight Red Rosette, 1980s – photography David Cox Studios
- Knight White Spine, 1980s
- Knight Black Horseshoe, 1990s
- W H Smith compilations
- Fidra Books, 2000s, photography
The only versions to be credited are the Knight Red Rosette printing of the 1980s (David Cox Studios) and the Fidra reprints (. No other version is (as far as I know – if I’ve missed a credit somewhere please let me know).
Most of these printings show Black Boy as piebald. The one on the compilation edition is interesting. With the best will in the world, I can’t see that version of Black Boy winning any sort of showing class. Not at that weight, anyway.
Fidra Books returned to a black Black Boy when they republished the books.
