Gallop Magazine was a child of the 1990s. The first issue was published in August 1996. Costing £2.20, it was a monthly mag edited by Alison Joy, published by EMAP and a sister publication to Your Horse. It was aimed at adult riders (especially female) and there was an emphasis on real-life stories and celeb rider interviews. It didn’t take itself very seriously, with more humour than other adult-orientated magazines.
Editors came thick and fast in its short but glorious run. By March 1997, Keith Nelson became editor-in-chief, replaced in August the same year by Karen Taylor. The final issue we know about was in 1998.
Gallop was then merged with Your Horse, but this didn’t happen officially until August 2000.
