The publishing industry has produced many annuals for the horse obsessed over the decades. The Pony Club was keen to educate its members, and produced annuals from the early 1950s dedicated to just that. Pony Magazine’s Percy annual followed a little later. Readers then had a wait until the early 1960s before Pony really got going. Once Pony started annuals, they continued pretty much until the present day.
Other annuals, like Collins, Black Beauty and Follyfoot, weren’t so prolific. Follyfoot and Black Beauty were centered on television series, and once they’d ended the impetus behind the annuals finished too.
Riding annuals didn’t survive the folding of Riding magazine.
