About the author
John Calvin Starr (b.1892) worked in banking, fruit growing and property development, and started his writing career with two books on business. They were both a success, and coincided with a long convalescence after illness. Whether it was the illness or the success of his books, he became obsessed with the idea of earning his living through his writing. As far as I can see, Black Dinah is the only book he wrote under the name John Calvin Starr.
