McLane, Gretel Blickhahn

About the author

Gretel Blickhahn McLane wrote at least two books set in Hawaii, where I presume she lived. It’s proved difficult to track down any information about her. One of the books, Kalia and the King’s Horse, explores the time when horses were introduced to Hawaii.

The first horses are brought to Hawaii by white men, and presented to the King. Kalia longs to ride the white horse, little realising she will get her wish when she has to ride the horse to tell the King about a conspiracy against him.
