Prospector Jim finds a newborn, half frozen colt in the mountains, and brings him home to his cabin to try and save. Living alone, he is glad to have the colt for company. Jim is known as a mysterious hermit, who distrusts people. The colt, Black Jupiter, helps draw Jim into the warm friendship of the neighbouring Jordan family, as well as into contact with society again
