About the author
John Pennington wrote the book-of-the-series Trainer, based on the BBC television series starring David McCallum, Susannah York and Nigel Davenport. Commissioned by the BBC to replace its popular (though critically slated) Howard’s Way, Trainer followed the ups and downs of Mike Hardy, the eponymous trainer. Played by Mark Greenstreet, the series concentrated rather more on the machinations of the racing industry than on horses. It lasted two series.
Finding the book
The paperback first edition is easy to find, and not generally expensive. The hardback reprint is considerably more difficult to locate.
