About the author
Helen Muir was born in Wirral, Cheshire, and worked as a reporter on a local newspaper before she became a fulltime writer. Dan’s Secret Pony is, as far as I know, the only pony book she has written, though she has written several other novels for both children and adults.
Finding the book
Dan’s Secret Pony is reasonably easy to find, and shouldn’t be too expensive.

Blackie, London, 1985, illus Shirley Bellwood
Dan Fisher, an outcast at school, longs for a pony of his own. His father is dead, and his mother works long hours, so he has plenty of time for befriending Gina, a black pony he finds in a field. Dan also befriends Alf, who teaches him to ride. Then Dan finds that Gina is due to be sent to the knacker’s, and has a desperate fight to save her.
A good gentle read for the younger reader.
