Please read this if you’re trying to find a particular magazine.
Can I buy a magazine from you?
No. I don’t actually have stocks of them for sale. I have a small collection myself, and most of the photos you can see on the site were sent to me by other collectors.
Where can I find magazines?
1. Magazines are often for sale on eBay – it’s where I found most of the ones I have. I have also seen them on secondhand sites like AbeBooks and Etsy, and you can try the Facebook group Our Old Pony Books which sometimes has equine magazines for sale.
2. If you’re in the UK, the British Library has full runs of most magazines, and you can read them there. You will need to plan this though: most magazines are not kept on site, so you’ll need to order them in advance of your visit.
3. Some magazines, like Country Life, have been digitised and are available via sites like British Newspaper Archive.
4. Horse and Hound has been digitised, and you can pay for access to that archive.
Can I ask you to find an article for me?
Unfortunately not. I have previously tried to help with queries like this, but the volume of them has increased recently, and it’s not something I can sustain any longer.
Why can’t you do it?
It takes time
Often the correspondent can’t give me much information other than something like ‘I think it was the late seventies’.
I’m sure you can imagine just how long looking through several years’ worth of magazines will take, only to find out that the person making the query has now remembered the magazine actually appeared in 1984.
I don’t have copies of all the magazines you can see on the website.
I only have a limited collection myself. Many of the cover scans have come from other collectors, so in many cases I simply don’t have the magazines available to search. I’m not prepared to pass queries on to other collectors either, so please don’t ask.
But I will pay you!
I have a full-time job already. I really don’t have the time to do it even if you pay.
