Choosing was Diana Pullein-Thompson’s first adult novel, and was written under her married name, Diana Farr. Her husband, Dennis Farr, was a well-known art historian, director of the Courtauld Institute and a champion of 20th century art. Diana shared her husband’s fascination, which this novel reflects.
The heroine, Christabelle Lang looks back at her life as an artist during Bloomsbury’s early days, a period fraught, particularly for women, with pioneering change. A study of youth and age, the novel shows how the old woman is enticed back to a life long since left behind.
