About the author
Doris McFerran Townsend has written many books. As well as fiction, she has also written several cookery books. She was one of the founders of the magazine Teens Today, and worked as an editor in a New York publishing house. Although she had been a rider since early childhood, only one of her books, Dinny and Dreamdust, was a horse book. The blurb, I’m told, makes the book sound sickeningly goody-goody, which doesn’t do the story justice!
Finding the book
The book wasn’t published in the UK, but is readily available in the USA. As ever, most of the books on offer are ex library editions, but firsts with djs are available at fairly reasonable prices. A word of warning from Susan: the book is often offered without a dustjacket, the seller stating that that is how the book was issued. Copies with djs are available.

The Lazy H Ranch is going to be sold, and Dinny Stoner fears she won’t get to see Dreamdust, the mare who has been her
friend since her mother died, again. However, the new owners are her friends the Macklin family. Dinny has something of a pash for Mike Macklin, and hopes he’ll think of her as more than just the girl who helps out in the stables. Dinny has a rival in the beautiful Lissa Lambert, and Dinny’s temper doesn’t help either. However, accidents and dramas show her what’s really important in life.
