Kirkus review

Dave grew up on a ranch in the west, near a school known for its polo team. He comes across  a herd of wild horses, with a grey mare and colt . Dave names the colt Hush, and wants him for his own, but can’t get near him. Dave’s uncle sends him off east to school. Two years later he transfers to Ocotillo, where he sees the colt at a sale. He’s bought by another boy from the school.
Dave tries to put the resulting tension aside for the sake of the team, but then his Uncle loses his money, and it looks like Dave will not be able to return to Ocotillo, just when he has been named captain of the team.
