About the author
Gus Tavo was a pseudonym used by Gus Ivan (Gustave Ivan). He wrote several children’s books; all set in wild America, about buffalo, grizzly bear and the mountain lion. He wrote one horse book, Ride the Pale Stallion.

Reasonably easy to find. It was not published in the UK.

Abe lives with his father on their homestead in New Mexico. Life is hard. Abe’s father is cold, and bitter after he lost a leg in the Civil War and Abe’s mother died. One day Abe sees a white stallion at the head of a herd of wild horses. He begins to find his way towards life again, inspired by his plan to own and ride the white stallion.
