About the author
James L Summers (1910–73) was an American author, born in Wisconsin, and educated at the Universities of Wisconsin and California. He combined his writing career, during which he wrote children’s books, with being a teacher. At least one of his books (please let me know if you’ve found more) is about horses: Gift Horse (1961).

What Alan wanted was a car. It wasn’t what he got. His aunt bought him a palomino horse called Mr Buddy. Mr Buddy was not your usual horse. He had personality, but Alan does eventually manage to warm to the horse.
