Grace Skaar wrote and illustrated children’s stories for the younger reader, most of which involved animals. She wrote one horse story, A Boy and His Horse, which looks at what it is like to finally get your own horse.

The story of a boy who wants a horse very much, and is very happy when his father’s horse has a foal, which will be his someday. He watches the colt as it grows up, helps with his training, and finally the day comes when he is able to ride his own horse.
