About the author
Bonnie Pryor (1942–2013) was an American author of children’s books. She was, she said, “born loving books,” even though her parents tried to discourage her from reading. There were no children’s books in the house, so she read adult books until she started school and found libraries. She went on to study nursing, but decided that life was not for her, and when she was bringing up her own children, discovered a talent for telling stories. Eventually she started writing her own books, and in all wrote 37 books, many of which are historical fiction. One of her books, Horses in the Garage, is a horse story. The sequel to the earlier Rats, Spiders & Love (1986), it’s the story of Samantha, who’s facing some major changes in her life.

Horses in the Garage
William Morrow, New York, 1992, 153 pp.
Three years after her father died in a car crash, Samantha’s mother has remarried, and the family has moved to the Midwest. Sam is unhappy about the move, facing new kids at school, and the constant bickering between her younger sister, Julie, and her stepfather. Sam suggests that the family needs a project, and it is decided that they will have a barn built, and get two horses. They purchase the horses, and have the normal “new horse people with horses” problems. Adding
to their problems, the building of the barn keeps getting delayed, leaving them no proper place to keep the horses.
