Piper, Roberta

About the author

Roberta Piper is an author who’s proved difficult to track down. She was married to Henry Dan Piper, who worked on the Manhattan Project, which built the first atomic bomb, but other than that, I’ve been able to find out remarkably little.

Finding the book
Easy to find in both its USA and UK incarnations.

Nan is finally old enough to have a pony of her own – no more having to save up for pony rides! Her grandfather takes her to the fair, where she falls in love with a chestnut pony named Little Red. But the pony is only a two-year-old, and Nan is told that an older pony would be a better choice. Nan stands firm, and becomes the proud owner of Little Red. Once home with him, Nan soon realises how much patience and understanding she will need to handle the young pony, and also how much work is involved with taking care of him. But making friends with Little Red, and learning to ride, jump, and drive him in a cart made it all worth while.
