McCord, Joseph

About the author

Joseph McCord (1880–1943) was an American author. He wrote one horse book of which I am aware: Bugles Going By (1933). Having said that, the book is not dripping with horse, but they are in there. Alas I can find no biographical information on the author. If you can help, please get in touch.

Bugles Going By

AL Burt Company, 1933, 312 pp

Not the most horse-filled story, apparently, but they do appear. Chell Harwood lives with her two uncles at High House in Maryland, once known for its wealth and racehorses, but no longer. “Miss Janon of Dudley” is the last of the long line of Dudley horses. Chell is taught to ride, but has an accident and is afraid of jumping. Her uncle uses this to his advantage. He forbids her from seeing
her boyfriend and wants her to marry a wealthy sportsman. Chell can’t decide who she prefers until the horse is stolen and her friend Paul returns to cover the story for his newspaper.
