About the author

Susan Ketchen was born and raised on Vancouver Island, Canada. She has pursued an alarming number of educational paths and professional careers, including over a decade as a marriage and family therapist. She can sometimes be found “out standing in her field, and always on the web at www.susanketchen.ca”. She lives on a farm with her husband, two horses, two cats and a flock of chickens. There are also eagles, but I don’t think they’re actually hers. When she was nineteen, she said “I knew exactly what I wanted from life: I wanted to write and to ride. Just one problem. Back then, this was no way to make a living (okay, maybe it still isn’t).”

Her Born That Way series is about Sylvia, a fourteen-year-old with Turner Syndrome, which is undiagnosed. Sylvia is the same size as the average eight-year-old, which is even more of a problem than you might think, as she will only get her longed-for horse when she grows as tall as her grandfather’s shoulder.
