About the author
Florence Hayes (b.1895) wrote several children’s books, some of which have an American Indian theme. As far as I know, she wrote two horse books.
Finding the books
Both titles are reasonably easy to find. Neither had a UK publication.

Ricardo rescues a wild burro from the quicksand. He then has to work hard to try and tame the burro so that he can earn some money by selling burro rides. He also wants to ride in the parade at the fiesta.
Chee and His Pony, the Story of a Navajo Boy

Chee is at Navajo school. He is in his second year, and is expecting that he will finally get the pony his grandfather has promised. However, he finds out that not only does his grandfather not have enough money to buy the promised pony, he cannot even afford to replace his own two old work horses.
