About the author
Michael Erlanger, about whom I have as yet been able to find no biographical information, wrote a horse story set in the days when Quarter Horse racing wasn’t exactly run to strict Jockey Club lines.

Mindy Lindy May Surprise

Dino Lucchesi grew up around the old Jamaica race track in Queens, doing anything to make some money. Just as he was starting to make a name for himself as a trainer of racing quarter horses, World War II broke out and took him away from the racing world. After the war, he travelled back with a jeep and an unbroken quarter horse, and his old quarter horse, Mindy Lindy. He hears about a crooked deal where a racehorse is being dyed with spots, so that the owner can run him in a race for appaloosas, and Dino decides to get in on the action.
