About the author
Walter Dumaux Edmonds (1903–88) was an American author born in New York and educated at Harvard. He wrote several historical novels. One, Drums Along the Mohawk (1936) took a fictional couple, and placed them in an historical setting with historical characters during the American Revolution. The book was turned into a film in 1939. At least one of his stories (though possibly more) has some horse content. They Had a Horse (1962) is a YA novel, again historical, which is set in the early days of American settlement, and features poor German settlers who need a work horse.
