About the author
Sophy Burnham was brought up in Maryland, and educated at Smith College, Northampton, Mass, where she studied Italian language and literature. After taking a shorthand and typing course, she found a clerk’s job at the Smithsonian Institution. She left the Smithsonian six years later as head of the Film and Television Department. She taught herself to write by selling articles to magazines, and when her second daughter, Molly, was born, began to write books and plays.
Today, she says, “… my ambition is simply to enjoy. I’m left breathless by the beauty and anguish of this lovely world.” She owns a half-Arabian horse, and is learning dressage. She believes in angels.
Sophy Burnham has written one horse book, as far as I am aware, Buccaneer.

The book is easy to find in the USA. It was not printed in the UK.

Julie has a pony called Model, which she wants to show. The problem she has is that she doesn’t have enough money for the entry fees. She decides to charge her friends $5 each to watch her ride, or at least remove the lead rope from the outlaw racehorse her family is grazing.
