About the author
Mebane Holoman Burgwyn (1914–92) was born in North Carolina, and lived there all her life. She and her family lived on a farm near Jackson, North Carolina, and she worked as director of guidance services for Northampton County Schools. Her children’s books, of which she wrote seven, won prizes: the American Association of University Women award for the best juvenile book of the year in 1952 for Penny Rose, and again in 1970 for her one horse book, The Crackajack Pony.
