About the author
Kimberly Cates is an American author of romantic novels. She was a fervent, if not manic, early reader, and would sneak out after lights out and read by the hall light until her mother came home in the early morning. School was in some ways a challenge: when Kimberly was in third grade, her parents were called into school, to be told that she was refusing to learn her times tables as you did not need them if you were going to be a writer. She was always writing, starting many stories (though not actually finishing any!) Her parents eventually persuaded her she needed another string to her bow besides the desire to write, and she qualified as an elementary school teacher.
Once she was married and had a small daughter, Kate, her husband, Dave, gave her an electric typewriter for her birthday and told her “You have five years before Kate starts school. If you publish a book by then, you can stay home and be a writer like you’ve always dreamed.” She wrote her first book while her daughter was asleep.
