Heroines on Horseback: FAQ

What is the book about?

It’s a look at the pony book from its earliest trot up until the 1970s. All the major authors are featured: Ruby Ferguson, the Pullein-Thompsons, K M Peyton, Monica Edwards and Monica Dickens, and many more. There’s a chapter looking at the development of the pony book in this century, just to bring everything up to date. You can see what’s in the book here.

I already have the book. What’s new about this edition?

A new cover! There are also some updates and corrections, as well as additions to some sections. For example, the Ruby Ferguson biography has been extended, and there’s more material on Mary Gervaise. I’ve included material on some books that were cut from the original, like Prince Among Ponies. Are you missing out if you already have the original and don’t buy this? No, I don’t think so. There is new material, but not enough to make it a completely new book.

Is the e-book version illustrated?

Yes, it is, but in order to keep the costs down, there are not as many illustrations as in the original version. The illustrations are, however, in colour. If they’re in colour in the original that is. I haven’t gone round adding colour to the black and white illustrations.

Why should I buy this when your website is available free?

A lot of what is in the book is not available on the website: some of the biographical information in the book isn’t available anywhere else. You’ll also get an analysis and overview of each writer’s books.

Will you do a print version?

Possibly, but it does depend on demand.

Where can I buy the book?

Via my website, and the usual ebook retailers.
