About the author
Myrtle Ellen Green wrote two pony books I am aware of: the wondrously titled A Pony, Doctor’s Orders, which sounds more as if it should be a Mills and Boon, and The Part-Exchange Pony. Both books were part of the Crown Pony Library.
Finding the books
A Pony, Doctor’s Orders is easier to find than The Part-Exchange Pony. Both titles are usually reasonably priced.

Mick falls in love with the new pony at the stables, Blue Dominion. Mick has always wanted to learn to ride, and now has the chance, even though he has a lame leg. The riding stables is threatened with closure, and Mick and his friends at the stables fight to save it.
The Part-Exchange Pony

Stephen, the child of unhorsy parents who now run a garage on the site of his grandfather’s livery stables, thinks the best way to get a pony is to get one in part-exchange, so the next time they sell a car, he
suggests they take a pony in part exchange, rather than a car. His parents agree, not without misgivings, and so Stephen gets Gypsy. There is a mystery about Gypsy though, and Stephen finds himself forced
to face it.
