Danielle Steel is, according to her website, the most popular author living today, with over 580 million copies of her books in print.  She was born in New York City in 1947, spent her early childhood in France, and was educated at the Lycée Francais de New York, Parsons School of Design and New York University. She worked in PR and advertising, and wrote her first book at the age of 19.  Her books are mostly romances, although she has written a children’s series, Max and Martha.  She is Is very keen on dogs, and has miniature Brussels Gryphons, which she says look like Ewoks.

One of her books has a horsy background: Palomino.  The book was turned into a film
