Maureen O’Donoghue

Winner

Joseph, 1988, 416 pp.

Penguin, London, 1989, 439 pp.

Macha Sheridan is the orphaned daughter of an Irish gypsy horsetrader, and an unconventional girl.  Her life is certainly
not straightforward, but ultimately she is the winner.  The book is set at the turn of the century, in the world of
thoroughbred horse breeding and racing.

I’m struggling to find any biographical information on this author.  She’s written other novels with a rural background, and, as far as I’m aware, one that involves horses, Winner.

Finding the book:  easy to find.
