Geraldine Kaye started writing early:  she was nine.  She is a prolific author, writing books for children of all ages.  In 1984, she won the Other Award for Comfort Herself.  She taught creative writing, and lives in Bristol.  In her wide range of work, she has written one pony book, The Pony Raffle, and two stories about donkeys:  The Donkey Strike and The Donkey Christmas. Both donkey books are early readers.

Finding the book:  The Pony Raffle is easy to find in both its printings.  Donkey Christmas is still in print.   The Donkey Strike is reasonably easy to find.  Donkey Boy is very tricky.

Charming story of a girl who wins a pony in a raffle, and has nowhere to keep him and a roundly unsympathetic
father to boot.  However, she has a very resourceful family!
