Elizabeth Dale
Elizabeth Dale writes books for younger children.  She has written several animal-based stories for Ladybird, but as far as I know The Midnight Pony is her only pony book.  It was written for Corgi as part of a selection of pony books for the younger reader, which also includes titles by Peter Clover and K M Peyton.

Finding the book:  still in print, and readily available secondhand.

The Midnight Pony

Young Corgi, pb, London, 96pp.  Cover Kathryn Prewett, illus Robin Lawrie

“Katie can hardly believe her eyes when she looks out of her bedroom window at midnight and spots a beautiful
pony in her back garden.  The pony - Moonlight - has been abandoned... But Moonlight is so scared of people
that he is almost dangerous.”
